A Piece of History Brought Home

Writer's picture: CGHO StaffCGHO Staff

We've brought a piece of hockey history home! We are now in possession of the #21 U.S. Coast Guard Cutters jersey worn by the late Mike Nardello from 1942-44. A native of Clinton, NY, he was Captain of the St. Lawrence University Hockey team, playing 9 years of professional hockey. He served as an off-ice official for the New Jersey Devils until he was 81.

Playing out of the U.S. Coast Guard Yard in Baltimore, he would win two USA Hockey Championships as well as the 1942-43 EAHL Championship with the Cutters. Alongside 6 Cutters teammates now enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame and/or United States Hockey Hall of Fame, he faced off against teams such as the Hershey Bears and Detroit Red Wings.
