Congrats to the 2022 NECHA champions!! Coast Guard won the NECHA Colonial Conference Championship beating WPI 4-2 to capture the championship to earn a spot in the ACHA National Championship in St. Louis in March.
The Bears (#2 seed in the south division) run started with the quarterfinals on Thursday night against the University of New Haven (#3 seed in the south division), with the Bears winning 5-4, scoring with 1:25 left in the third. Goals by freshman Dylan McGill, freshman Kyle Jacobson, sophomore Dillon Carmen, junior Frank Linso, and senior Connor Gallagher. Freshman Stone Grant was in net and had 32 saves.
Saturday's semifinal was against Thomas College (#1 seed in the north division) and the Bears won another close game 3-1. Goals by McGill, Jacobson, and junior Andrew Rizzo, who secured the game with an empty netter. Grant had 24 stops in between the pipes.
Sunday's final was against WPI (#1 seed in the south division), an opponent who swept the Bears this season by scores of 5-2 and 2-1. However, the third time was the charm and the Bears won when it mattered, beating the Engineers 4-2. The Bears were the dominant team and controlled most of the play in championship game. Goals were scored by Linso, Rizzo, senior Devin Gettman, and Gallagher. Gallagher's goal in the 2nd period that proved to be the game-winner was coincidently his 100th career point.
